Pakistan’s new Central Parliament or National Assembly held its first session today and the newly elected members were sworn in three weeks after the elections were held in which widespread allegations of fraud were made.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new members of the parliament was conducted by the former speaker of this parliament, Raja Pervez Ashraf.
It is decided that tomorrow the President and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament will be elected and on March 4 they will choose the new Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Imran Khan’s party was banned from participating in the February 8 elections of Pakistan, but his supporters won many votes.
According to the constitution of Pakistan, the prime minister must be elected by the party or parties that have won the most votes.
Former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been nominated for the post of Prime Minister by the Muslim League-Nawaz party, which has agreed to form a coalition government with the Pakistan People’s Party and some other small parties.
