Fayaz bin Hamed al-Waili, the chief of staff of Saudi Arabia, met with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Bagheri, in a rare visit to Tehran on Sunday, 20 October.

Iran’s IRNA news agency reported that they discussed the development of defense diplomacy and bilateral cooperation.

No details have been given.

According to Iranian media reports, last year Bagheri discussed regional developments and defense cooperation with Prince Khaled bin Salman Al Saud, Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia.

Al-Roweili is the second high-ranking official of Saudi Arabia who has traveled to Tehran since the agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia to resume diplomatic relations.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan visited Iran in June 2023.

After seven years, Tehran and Riyadh agreed on the resumption of diplomatic relations in March of last year following talks mediated by China.
