On Sunday, March 15 (24th of Hoot), on the occasion of the \u201cInternational Day to Combat Islamophobia\u201d, Guterres emphasized the global community\u2019s commitment to equality, human rights, and the dignity of every individual, regardless of their religion or belief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: \u201cThese worrying trends are fueled by anti-Muslim rhetoric and blatant hatred, a phenomenon that can lead to harassment and violence against individuals and places of worship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The UN Secretary-General called on governments to take concrete steps to counter hate speech, protect freedom of religion, and fight discrimination. He also urged people not to remain silent wherever they encounter prejudice, xenophobia, or discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Guterres stressed the need for collective action to combat Islamophobia and eliminate it at its roots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
