CNN, citing two informed U.S. sources, also reported that the president is unlikely to accept Iran\u2019s proposal. The outlet added that lifting the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports without resolving issues related to Iran\u2019s nuclear program could remove one of Washington\u2019s key sources of leverage in negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump had discussed Iran\u2019s proposal with his senior national security advisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iran has proposed that discussions on its nuclear program be delayed until after the war, while disputes over shipping in the Persian Gulf are addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A previous agreement between Iran and several countries, including the United States in 2015, had significantly limited Iran\u2019s nuclear program\u2014one that Tehran has consistently said is for peaceful, civilian purposes. That agreement collapsed after the United States unilaterally withdrew from it during Trump\u2019s first term in office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
