Iranian media have reported that at least five people were killed after the US military attacked several small boats in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the report, the six small boats that were targeted by the US on Monday in the Strait of Hormuz were not affiliated with Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), but were civilian vessels carrying goods and passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Tasnim News Agency, citing Iranian military officials, reported that five people were killed in the attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A military official told the agency: \u201cUS forces attacked two small cargo boats carrying civilians, which were moving from Khasab on the coast of Oman toward the Iranian coast, and opened fire on them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The official added: \u201cThis rushed and reckless action by the enemy stems from the excessive fear of US forces regarding the operations of IRGC fast boats.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that \u201cSea Hawk\u201d and \u201cApache\u201d attack helicopters were used to \u201cdestroy small Iranian boats that were threatening commercial shipping.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident comes at a time when tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world\u2019s most important strategic waterways, have recently increased. The United States says it has strengthened its presence as part of a plan to protect the passage of commercial vessels, while Iran describes these actions as provocative and a violation of the ceasefire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
