Germany Allows Islamic Emirate Delegation to Enter for Coordination on Afghan Deportations<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The German government announced on Monday that it has granted short-term entry permission to a delegation of representatives of the Islamic Emirate to cooperate on coordinating increased deportations of Afghan nationals to Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry said at a press conference: \u201cWe have granted short-term entry permission to a technical support team,\u201d whose purpose is to \u201cincrease the number of deportations to Afghanistan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The spokesperson added that the presence of Afghan representatives to provide consular services to around 450,000 Afghan nationals in Germany, particularly to assist with the return process, is in Germany\u2019s interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the German official, the members of the delegation have undergone security checks, do not have diplomatic accreditation in Germany, and will leave the country after a short stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After accepting a large number of asylum seekers and migrants in recent years, Berlin has tightened its migration policy under the leadership of Friedrich Merz, Germany\u2019s conservative chancellor. Merz is seeking to prevent the growing popularity of the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Merz government has said that deportations to Afghanistan will focus on people with criminal records. However, 23 Afghan men were deported from Germany last week, including some who had not been convicted of any crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
