Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have agreed, during a two-day meeting in Herat, to establish a joint road transport commission to address road transport issues and facilitate transit between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Afghan Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation says technical delegations from both countries discussed expanding transport and transit cooperation during the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the ministry, facilitating the visa issuance process for Afghan and Turkmen drivers and traders, activating the Lapis Lazuli transit route, and increasing the movement of transit vehicles between the two countries were among the main issues discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two sides also discussed expanding railway cooperation, increasing bilateral trade, and developing transit activities. Representatives of the private sector are also expected to participate in some meetings related to these areas of cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Representatives of Afghanistan\u2019s ministries of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Commerce, and the Afghanistan Railway Authority also attended the meeting. The Afghan delegation was led by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Lapis Lazuli route connects Afghanistan to regional and European markets through Turkmenistan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and T\u00fcrkiye. Its development could provide Afghanistan<\/p>\n\n\n\n
