Local officials in Ghor report that on Saturday night, January 18, heavy snowfall caused the Ghor-Kabul and Ghor-Herat highways to be closed to traffic.
Abdul Karim Abu Shoaib, the head of Ghor’s Public Works Department, stated: “The Ghor-Kabul highway in the Band-e-Bakak area between Ghor and Bamyan provinces, and the Ghor-Herat highway, have been blocked due to last night’s snowfall, preventing the movement of any vehicles.”
The head of Ghor’s Public Works Department added that their teams are working to reopen the blocked roads for transportation as soon as possible.
The highways connecting Ghor to neighboring provinces are among the most challenging routes, which every year during winter turn into a “nightmare” for travelers.
