Authorities in Nigeria report that the death toll from an oil tanker explosion has risen to 86.

On Saturday of this week, an oil tanker overturned in the Diko state of Nigeria. While people were collecting fuel from the tanker, an explosion occurred.

The Nigerian Emergency Management Agency stated: “Eighty people have been buried in a mass grave, five others were buried by their families in their local areas, and one person died in the hospital.”

The incident also left 55 people injured.

A similar incident occurred last October in Jigawa State, where 147 people were killed.

Since 2023, fuel prices in Nigeria have risen significantly, and a lack of adherence to safety protocols during fuel transportation is considered one of the main causes of such incidents.
