The Israeli government has announced that it has accepted a proposed plan from the United States regarding a temporary ceasefire in Gaza.
In a statement issued by Netanyahu’s office on Sunday, March 2, shortly after the first phase of the ceasefire in Gaza ended, it was announced that Israel had agreed to the U.S. plan for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza to coincide with the month of Ramadan and the Jewish holiday.
According to the plan, several Israeli captives will be released, and some of the deceased bodies will be handed over.
The temporary ceasefire plan for Gaza was proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Whitecoff.
In response to the statement released by the Israeli Prime Minister’s office, Hamas stated that this was a clear confirmation that Israel is rejecting signed agreements.
A senior Hamas official, Mahmoud Mardawi, said, “This continued interference will not return the hostages to their families, but rather… it will increase their continued suffering and put their lives at risk.”
The U.S. special envoy stated that the temporary ceasefire was necessary because, during this period, conditions would be created for talks on a permanent ceasefire.
