Reuters, citing the White House, has reported that U.S. President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order today (Thursday) to shut down the Department of Education.
Trump and his billionaire advisor, Elon Musk, have previously attempted to close government programs and agencies, such as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). However, shutting down the Department of Education will be Trump’s first attempt to dissolve a cabinet-level department.
The department cannot be closed without congressional approval.
