Former U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Russia that if it does not accept a ceasefire plan for Ukraine, it will face new and devastating sanctions against its economy.
Speaking at a meeting yesterday, Trump expressed hope that a ceasefire in Ukraine could be achieved without increasing pressure on Russia.
He added: “There are financial measures that can be taken, which would be very bad for Russia and completely undesirable.”
Trump also stated that implementing the ceasefire plan would be in Russia’s best interest.
According to Trump, a U.S. delegation will engage in negotiations to present a ceasefire proposal for Ukraine to Russia.
So far, Russia has not officially responded to Trump’s remarks but has presented its list of demands to the U.S. for ending the conflict.
Meanwhile, two days ago, Ukraine agreed to a 30-day temporary ceasefire with Russia during talks with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia.
