Syrian leader Ahmad Al-Shara has pledged to investigate reports of mass killings of civilians by the country’s security forces.
A Syrian human rights group reported today (Monday, March 10) that since March 6, Syrian security forces or pro-government militias have killed 937 civilians.
According to the report, these mass killings occurred during clearance operations in the Alawite regions linked to former President Bashar al-Assad, where his supporters also reside.
Violence in Syria escalated after pro-Assad forces killed two soldiers from the new Syrian Ministry of Defense in the Al-Daathour area of Latakia last Tuesday.
Following this incident, the new Syrian government’s forces and their allied militants launched extensive operations to eliminate pro-Assad elements in these regions.
