The organization known as Polio Free Afghanistan has announced that a new campaign for administering the polio vaccine will begin across all regions of Afghanistan.
In a statement published today (Thursday, April 17), the organization said that the campaign will start this coming Monday. “The new polio vaccination campaign is set to begin on Monday, April 21, 2025 (1 Sawr 1404), in all areas of Afghanistan.”
Polio Free Afghanistan has not clarified how many children under the age of five will be vaccinated during this round of the campaign.
Afghanistan and Pakistan are the two countries where polio has not yet been eradicated. The first recorded case of polio in the current calendar year occurred on February 22, 2025 (3 Hoot 1403), in Badghis province.
