Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says that the Crimean Peninsula is Ukrainian territory.
Speaking to journalists, he said: “Our position has not changed: only the people of Ukraine have the right to decide which regions are part of Ukraine. According to Ukraine’s constitution, all occupied territories are temporarily occupied. These territories belong to Ukraine and the people of Ukraine. Ukraine will never recognize the legality of these temporarily occupied regions. I believe this position is completely fair. It is not only constitutional, but also legitimate under international law.”
In 2014, following a political crisis in Ukraine, the Crimean Peninsula was annexed by Russia.
