The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reports that approximately 1.4 million Afghan refugees have returned to the country so far this year, with over one million coming from Iran alone.

In its latest report, the agency stated that the large number of returnees has significantly increased humanitarian needs, and efforts are currently underway to secure sufficient financial resources.

UNHCR adds that, in collaboration with partner organizations, it is providing assistance to returnees at the Iran-Afghanistan border. However, the agency warns that without adequate funding, these operations may only continue for a few more weeks
