The U.S. State Department, under the directive of President Donald Trump, has begun the process of laying off more than 1,300 employees.
International media reported today (Saturday, July 13) that this move is part of a broader restructuring plan by the Trump administration aimed at reducing the department’s domestic workforce by 15%.
According to a notice sent to staff on Friday morning, the mandatory layoffs will affect 1,107 civil service employees and 246 foreign service employees.
In total, around 3,000 employees are expected to be dismissed as part of the restructuring.
According to the announced timeline, foreign service staff will be terminated within 120 days, while civil service employees will be laid off within 60 days.
