The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that from the beginning of 2025 until July 19, more than 1.5 million Afghans have returned to their homeland from Iran and Pakistan. According to OCHA, of this number, 1.2 million returned from Iran alone—most of whom were undocumented migrants. Among those who returned from Pakistan, 62% were undocumented, 25% held Proof of Registration (PoR) cards, and the remaining were either ACC cardholders or asylum seekers.
