U.S. media have reported that in a shooting near the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Emory University in Atlanta, a suspected armed individual and a police officer were killed.

The Associated Press, today (Saturday, August 9), quoting officials from the state of Atlanta, wrote that the incident occurred yesterday.

Susan Monarez, director of the CDC, said that at least four buildings of the center were hit by gunfire.

A state security official said the shooter had a handgun, and three other firearms were found at the scene.

The motive for the shooting has not yet been announced by Atlanta officials.
