The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) shared a video on its X page in which Andrika Ratwaty, the humanitarian coordinator for Afghanistan, called on the international community to take urgent action to provide emergency assistance—particularly shelter—for the earthquake-affected people in Kunar.

In the released video, Ratwaty said: “With winter approaching and the rainy season starting, families affected by the Kunar earthquake are facing severe hardships. Many families report that they have neither the means nor a safe place to stay for the winter.”

Ratwaty emphasized that the international community must act immediately to provide shelter, food, and other essential supplies before the onset of winter.

On August 31 of this year, a powerful earthquake struck several districts of Kunar province, registering a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter scale.
