A fire at a garment factory in Bangladesh has killed at least 16 people, with authorities warning that the death toll could rise.

The Bangladesh Fire Service reported that 16 bodies were recovered from the site, though they were unidentifiable due to severe burns.

The fire broke out yesterday at the garment factory and was extinguished by firefighters after three hours; however, a chemical storage warehouse is still burning.

Bangladeshi officials stated that investigations have begun into the cause of the fire and the operations of the garment factory.

In 2021, a fire at a food and beverage factory killed at least 52 people and injured 20 others.
