U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he has canceled his planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he decided to cancel the meeting due to a lack of progress in diplomatic efforts and the timing being inappropriate.
“We canceled the meeting with President Putin. I just didn’t feel good about it; I didn’t feel we were going to get to the point we needed to reach. So, I decided to cancel it,” he said.
The U.S. president emphasized that he intends to hold a meeting with Vladimir Putin at a later date.
Trump’s decision to cancel the meeting comes as the United States has imposed new sanctions on Russian oil exports — measures aimed at pressuring Moscow to agree to peace talks with Ukraine.
