Sardar Ahmad Shakib, Afghanistan’s ambassador to Pakistan, has warned about the deteriorating situation of Afghan refugees in various parts of the country. Shakib stated that following recent incidents and unrest, Pakistan has closed its joint border routes with Afghanistan, which has completely halted trade, transit, and people’s movement between the two countries. According to embassy figures, nearly ten thousand Afghan refugees have so far been detained by Pakistani police and sent to detention centers. Thousands more, fearing arrest, have gathered their belongings but are unable to leave Pakistan due to the closed routes. Sardar Ahmad Shakib has urged the Pakistani government to reopen all border crossings, including Torkham, Chaman, Spin Boldak, Angoor Ada, and Ghulam Khan, as soon as possible.
