Russia has announced that it is ready to act as a mediator between Pakistan and Afghanistan to help reduce rising tensions. The proposal was put forward by Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, who stated that regional stability is a serious priority for Russia and the international community.

Zakharova emphasized that both Pakistan and Afghanistan are important regional partners, urging both sides to exercise restraint and resolve their disputes through dialogue. According to her, mediation could pave the way for lasting peace and reduce security risks in the region.

Russia’s offer comes as Qatar and Turkey have previously attempted mediation and managed to establish a temporary ceasefire for some time; however, the recent talks in Istanbul ended without significant progress.

Zakharova warned that continued tensions could endanger regional security and stressed that sustained negotiations and avoiding actions that escalate the conflict are the only viable solutions.

Meanwhile, other regional powers have also expressed willingness to mediate. Iran’s foreign minister recently voiced concern over the situation and announced Iran’s readiness to help reduce tensions. Turkey is also expected to send a high-level delegation to Pakistan to continue discussions.

Experts believe that Russia’s involvement could inject new momentum into the negotiations and, amid various regional efforts, provide more opportunities for achieving a peaceful settlement.
