Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has announced that U.S. forces have, for the first time in four months, carried out a ground strike on a target in Venezuela. At the same time, the Pentagon conducted another operation in the Pacific Ocean that resulted in the deaths of two people.
Trump said the strike took place in a coastal area and targeted a boat that was being loaded with narcotics. He did not provide details about the exact location of the attack or the agency responsible for carrying it out.
If confirmed, the reported strike on a port would mark the first known U.S. ground attack on Venezuelan territory since Washington began its pressure campaign against the government of Nicolás Maduro.
The Venezuelan government has so far issued no official response to the claim, and no independent reports confirming the attack have been released.
Washington says the operation was aimed at countering drug trafficking to the United States, while Caracas rejects these allegations and accuses the U.S. of attempting to destabilize the country and seize its oil resources.
