The Palestinian committee tasked with overseeing the future administration of the Gaza Strip has released its “mission statement,” outlining the body’s main priorities and objectives.
Ali Shaath, the Commissioner General of the “National Committee for the Management of Gaza,” said the technocratic body seeks to restore basic services and foster a society “rooted in peace.”
In the statement, Shaath said: “Under the guidance of the Peace Council, chaired by Donald Trump, and with the support and cooperation of Gaza’s senior representative, our mission is to rebuild the Gaza Strip—not only its infrastructure, but also the spirit and soul of society.”
However, the National Committee for the Management of Gaza faces major challenges. The Gaza Strip has been extensively devastated after more than two years of war, and there are widespread doubts among Palestinians about the extent of the committee’s authority, independence, and scope of mandate.
