Philippine authorities have announced that a passenger ferry carrying more than 350 people sank early this morning in southern Philippines, leaving at least 15 people dead and 28 others still missing.
According to the Philippine Coast Guard, 316 passengers have so far been rescued. The vessel ran into trouble after departing from the port of Zamboanga while en route to Jolo Island.
The Coast Guard commander said that search and rescue operations are still ongoing, with naval and air units, as well as a Coast Guard aircraft, taking part in the mission.
The exact cause of the sinking has not yet been determined, and an official investigation will be launched.
