The Finnish government has announced that it will accept 150 Afghan refugees from Iran this year through its resettlement program. According to reports, Finland provides places for 500 people annually under the resettlement scheme. The Finnish Immigration Service estimates that in 2026, between 1,500 and 2,500 new asylum applications will be registered. Finnish authorities stated that this decision was prepared by the Ministry of the Interior in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and aligns with the recommendations of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
