Local authorities in Zamfara reported that fewer than 50 people were killed and several women and children kidnapped after armed motorcyclists targeted civilians in the region.
International media reported that the attack occurred in the village of “Tongan Dutse” in Bukkuyum on Thursday night and continued into Friday morning.
The gunmen also set residential buildings on fire and abducted dozens of women and children, though the exact number of abductees has not been released.
Northern and western Nigeria face multiple security threats, including armed criminal gangs and insurgent fighters. Last week, at least 46 people were killed in attacks in Borgu, and 38 others in the village of Konkuso, either shot or killed with knives.
