Edi Rama’s Resignation
Hundreds of people gathered in the streets near the Albania Parliament, demanding the resignation and accountability of Edi Rama, the Prime Minister, over corruption investigations linked to his deputy.
According to Al Jazeera, the protest in Tirana escalated into clashes between demonstrators and security forces.
Police tried to disperse protesters using tear gas and water cannons, while demonstrators responded with Molotov cocktails and firework attacks.
The police reported that 30 people were arrested during the protests. Meanwhile, Democratic Party of Albania stated that around 40 of its supporters were detained.
Widespread protests began after accusations against Belinda Balluku in December, with special investigations ongoing into potential corruption involving her and several former ministers in Rama’s government.
