Richard Bennett, the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur, has expressed concern over civilians being targeted in Pakistan’s attacks on Afghanistan.
Early today, Bennett wrote on his X account that both Pakistan and the Islamic Emirate must abide by international law and protect civilians.
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has reported that at least 13 civilians, including women and children, were killed in Pakistan’s attacks in Nangarhar.
Late on Sunday, the Pakistani military carried out airstrikes on parts of Afghanistan, including Nangarhar and Paktika—attacks that the Islamic Emirate has condemned as a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and warned about their consequences.
