Following the crash of a military plane carrying 125 people in Colombia, at least 34 have been killed and dozens more injured.

Al Jazeera reported today that the incident occurred in the Putumayo province, deep in the Amazon region near the border with Peru, while the soldiers were being transported.

According to the report, the Colombian Air Force’s C-130 Hercules aircraft, which was transporting soldiers to another destination, crashed just 1.5 kilometers from its takeoff point.

Colombia’s Defense Minister, Pedro Sánchez, stated that a fire on the plane caused the ammunition to explode. He added that there is no evidence of foreign attacks or illegal groups being involved.

Carlos Fernando Silva, commander of the Colombian Air Force, also said that two planes were dispatched to transfer the injured to hospitals in Bogotá and other areas.
