Richard Bennett, the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, has said that free media, freedom of expression, and access to information are fundamental elements of a peaceful and active society.
Bennett wrote today, Sunday (May 3), on X that journalists in Afghanistan play an important role in ensuring the right to access information.
May 3 was designated as World Press Freedom Day in 1993 by the United Nations General Assembly to raise awareness about the importance of press freedom and to remind governments of their commitment to freedom of expression.
