U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the country’s military operation in the Strait of Hormuz, known as the “Freedom Project,” has been temporarily suspended in order to provide an opportunity to finalize an agreement with Iran.
Trump said the decision was made following “significant progress” in talks with Iran and at the request of Pakistan and several other countries.
According to him, despite the ongoing blockade, ship movements under this operation have been briefly paused to consider the possibility of signing an agreement.
The project began on Monday, during which U.S. forces claimed they escorted two commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
