The U.S. Department of State has announced that the American consulate in Peshawar will be gradually closed, and its operations will be transferred to Islamabad. The ministry cited security concerns as the main reason for this decision, but emphasized that U.S. priorities in Pakistan remain unchanged.

U.S. officials said that engagement with the people and institutions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will continue, and efforts toward economic and security cooperation will persist.

According to reports, this step is also aimed at reducing costs, with an estimated saving of around 7.5 million dollars.
