The U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration, part of the Department of Energy, has said that it has removed all remaining enriched uranium from Venezuela.
According to reports, this material is used in the production of nuclear weapons. U.S. officials stated that 13.5 kilograms of highly enriched uranium were taken from a former research reactor in Venezuela and transported to the United States by sea and land.
The operation was carried out in cooperation between the United States, the United Kingdom, Venezuela, and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The United States said this move is important for reducing the risk of nuclear “terrorism” and strengthening global security.
