In Bannu city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, a car bomb and armed attack on a security checkpoint resulted in the death of three police officers and injuries to several others.
According to Pakistani media quoting security officials, the attackers first detonated an explosives-laden vehicle near the police checkpoint late yesterday evening, causing the complete destruction of the checkpoint building.
Police said that 15 officers were on duty at the post at the time of the incident. Reports indicate that after the explosion, the attackers entered the checkpoint and engaged in an armed confrontation with the police.
The report further stated that when additional security forces arrived to assist, they were ambushed by the attackers, resulting in more casualties and injuries among the personnel.
