Shughnan District in Badakhshan Suspends Illegal Mining Operations | Local authorities in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province have announced the immediate suspension of all illegal mining and gold panning activities in Shughnan District until legal procedures are completed and official licenses are obtained. According to officials, the decision was made during a meeting chaired by Badakhshan Governor Mohammad Ismail Ghaznavi, attended by the provincial Director of Mines and Petroleum, local district officials, and several miners. The aim of the meeting was to prevent illegal extraction and address complaints from local residents. The governor emphasized that no individual, group, or company will be allowed to carry out mining activities without a valid license and coordination with the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and the provincial mining department. He added that a new mining regulation will soon be issued by the Islamic Emirate authorities, after which applicants will be able to begin operations following official procedures through the Badakhshan provincial mining office.
