Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday, welcomed the extension of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, adding that he believes the disputed issues between the two sides can be resolved.
Trump also said that he had a “very good” phone conversation with Erdogan and added that they have a very strong relationship.
Trump said: “Isn’t it good to have relationships with very tough people? He is a tough man, and I have a relationship with him that nobody else has.”
He added: “I think he has been a very good ally. Some people doubt that, but I believe he has been an excellent ally.”
Turkey, a NATO member and a neighbor of Iran, has been in contact with Washington, Tehran, and Islamabad in efforts to end the conflict.
Trump had previously stated that negotiations with Iran were “in the final stages,” while also warning that if no agreement is reached, further attacks would be carried out.
