Venezuelan authorities have announced that the death toll from two devastating earthquakes in the country has risen to 920, while hundreds of people remain trapped beneath the rubble.

According to Reuters, citing Venezuelan officials, the earthquakes have also left 3,360 people injured, 172 people still trapped under debris, and more than 50,000 people listed as missing.

The United States Geological Survey has estimated that the death toll could eventually exceed 10,000.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has warned that nearly seven million people could be affected by the consequences of the earthquakes.

The UN has also estimated the direct economic damage caused by the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes in Venezuela at approximately $6.7 billion.
