In its latest report, the World Bank says that transforming food and agricultural systems could strengthen food security in Afghanistan and across the region, create new employment opportunities, and boost economic resilience.
According to the report, Afghanistan, like other countries in the Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan, faces serious challenges stemming from climate change, water scarcity, conflict, and food insecurity.
The World Bank believes that through increased investment, improvements to the business environment, and the modernization of food production and distribution value chains, the region—including Afghanistan—could create up to five million new jobs in the food and agriculture sector by 2050.
