The UAE Ministry of Defense has announced that one sailor was killed and eight others were injured after Iranian cruise missiles struck two UAE oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the ministry, the oil tankers “Al Bahiyah” and “Mombasa” were targeted while passing through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz and in Omani territorial waters. UAE officials said that the deceased sailor and six of the injured individuals were Indian nationals, while the condition of the other two injured people is still being assessed.
The UAE Ministry of Defense described the attack as a threat to maritime security and regional trade, adding that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had announced that it targeted and disabled two large oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. The incident has increased concerns over the security of one of the world’s most important energy transit routes.
