According to a report by Al Jazeera, the number of U.S. military personnel killed since the start of the conflict with Iran has risen to 16. More than 430 other service members have been injured, while one soldier remains missing.
The report states that on March 1, shortly after the conflict began, an Iranian drone struck a civilian port in Kuwait, killing six U.S. soldiers.
A seventh American service member, who was wounded the same day in an Iranian attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, died of his injuries more than a week later.
On March 12, six more U.S. service members were killed when a KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft crashed in Iraq. The U.S. military said the crash was caused by technical problems.
According to Al Jazeera, on July 1, a U.S. Navy pilot was killed after a helicopter crashed in the Arabian Sea region. The U.S. Navy stated that there is no indication the crash was caused by enemy action.
