U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has announced that the cost of the United States’ war with Iran has reached $37.5 billion so far, stressing that immediate funding from Congress is essential to sustain ongoing military operations.
According to a report by Reuters published today, Hegseth made these remarks during his first appearance before lawmakers since the resumption of large-scale military strikes against Iran. He urged Congress to approve emergency funding without delay to support the continuation of the conflict.
He also called on lawmakers not only to pass the supplemental funding package but also to approve the Pentagon’s $1.5 trillion budget request for fiscal year 2027.
Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump asked Congress to approve nearly $90 billion in additional funding, with a significant portion allocated to the war with Iran.
