Pakistani security forces have opened fire on protesters in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. According to reports, at least 11 protesters were killed and several others were injured in the shooting.
The protests have been ongoing since June of this year. The protesters are objecting to the allocation of 12 reserved seats in the local council of Pakistan-administered Kashmir for Kashmiri refugees who migrated to Pakistan from Indian-administered Kashmir several decades ago.
According to the protesters, reserving these seats would weaken the political representation of the region’s original residents and negatively affect their votes and representation.
