Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has strongly criticized Pakistan’s federal government’s security policies, claiming that Islamabad has lost control over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, and that the people of these provinces should not be made victims of failed security strategies.
Afridi said the federal government should not pursue its political and economic interests at the expense of people’s lives. He added, “If you want to earn dollars or buy islands abroad, do not do it with the blood of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Our people are not a testing ground.”
Speaking about the worsening security situation in the two provinces, he stated that the current crisis demonstrates the urgent need for a comprehensive review of Islamabad’s security policies.
According to Afridi, the institutions responsible for the country’s security and defense have become preoccupied with political rivalries instead of fulfilling their primary duties.
He also alleged that the Pakistani government had previously contributed to instability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and has now lost effective control over both provinces.
Afridi further criticized Islamabad’s policy on Kashmir, saying that Pakistan had long regarded Kashmir as part of its territory but is now using force against the people of the region.
He added, “If weapons were the solution to problems, peace would have been established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after 22 years. Likewise, if force had resolved the issues of the past 78 years, Pakistani officials would not today be warning of ongoing crises and the possible collapse of the system.”
His remarks come as militant attacks and insecurity have increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in recent months, raising growing concerns about Pakistan’s overall security situation.
