Austin Scott Miller, a retired U.S. general and former commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, says he was deeply dissatisfied with the way the U.S. mission in Afghanistan came to an end.
In an interview with ABC News, Miller said he knew that the withdrawal of U.S. forces could be accompanied by significant difficulties, but the fall of Kabul and the way the United States withdrew from Afghanistan left him deeply upset and angry.
Miller added that although, as a soldier, he was simply carrying out the policies of the U.S. government, it was difficult for him to see the reactions of his Afghan friends.
He said: “From their perspective, I felt as though I had betrayed them.”
