Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the gradual annexation of the West Bank.
Guterres wrote today, Thursday, September 17, on his X account that establishing a ceasefire is the first step toward achieving a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the Gaza Strip.
The UN Secretary-General also stressed the full implementation of the Gaza peace plan and the entry of humanitarian aid to assist Palestinians.
However, despite a ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas on October 11 last year through US mediation, reports indicate that Israeli attacks on Gaza have continued following the agreement.
According to figures provided by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 1,300 Palestinians have been killed and more than 4,600 others injured in Israeli attacks in Gaza since the ceasefire was established.
