The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has reported that over 1,000 people have been killed in the suppression of the Alawite region in Syria.
These individuals were killed in a two-day confrontation between the armed forces of the Alawite faction loyal to Bashar al-Assad, the ousted Syrian president, and the security forces of the new Syrian government in a coastal region.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that the casualties include 745 civilians, 125 Syrian security forces, and 148 armed forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad.
Rami Abdulrahman, the head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said that the widespread killings in Jableh, Banyas, and surrounding areas in the heart of the Alawite region are the worst violence in years in the 13-year internal conflict. He added that the victims also included women and children from the Alawite minority.
