Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said on Monday, June 2, that Tehran is reviewing the United States’ stance on sanctions as part of efforts to reach a nuclear agreement. He emphasized that Iran has yet to see any concrete change in Washington’s position regarding sanctions.

According to Reuters, Baghaei stated that the U.S. must clearly outline how sanctions will be lifted to ensure that past experiences are not repeated and to build mutual trust.

This development comes after The Wall Street Journal reported late Sunday that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt sent a letter last week to senior officials at the National Security Council, the Treasury Department, and the State Department, urging a halt to all new sanctions-related actions against Iran.

Earlier, the White House had said that accepting the U.S. proposal concerning the nuclear agreement would be in Iran’s best interest.

Negotiations between Tehran and Washington over a new nuclear deal began in March, with the fifth round of talks held on May 22 in Rome.
